Delaware is one of our smaller volume US lanes, but the lane is steady throughout the year. Inbound load is dominated by Wilmington pickups, including DuPont transfers and chemical industry transfers to Canadian R&D operations, finance professionals leaving Delaware’s corporate-friendly banking sector for Bay Street, and academics moving from University of Delaware to GTA institutions. Fewer people are moving to the southern part of the state, including Dover, mainly retirees and government employees finishing their tours of duty.

Coastal pickups in Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Bethany Beach have their own set of access challenges – narrow historic streets, HOA truck-size restrictions in resort communities and timed delivery windows during peak summer season. We work around these by using shuttle trucks when the primary trailer can’t get to the location, and by scheduling for community access restrictions. The cubic foot price is locked in at pickup. Access workarounds do not affect the rate at delivery in Toronto.

How Much Does it Cost to Move from Wilmington to Toronto?

Type of Move Estimated Cost
Small Move $569 to $1,229
1 Bedroom Apartment $1,229 to $2,659
2 Bedroom Apartment $2,659 to $4,649
3 Bedroom House $4,749 to $6,169
Office Relocation $1,519 to $9,209

Inventory Volume (Cubic Feet) + Distance/Route + Destination Logistics

The pricing for Delaware moves considers the approximate 510 mile trip up the East Coast and into Ontario through Buffalo. Destination logistics could mean coordinating truck access to Wilmington’s commercial districts, or negotiating the narrow streets of a historic district and homeowners’-association rules in places like Rehoboth Beach and Lewes on the coast.

Truck Route from Wilmington to Toronto

The cleanest route north for trucks coming up from the Mid-Atlantic is I-95 → I-81 → I-90, and because Delaware sits on the I-95 corridor, the route into Canada is straightforward — exit point is Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Drivers from Wilmington head north on I-95 through Pennsylvania into Scranton territory, then cut west via I-81 North through the Susquehanna Valley. Then the truck follows I-86 West and I-90 West (NY State Thruway) through upstate New York to Buffalo. Canadian customs clears at the Peace Bridge in Fort Erie and the QEW takes the load the rest of the way into the GTA. Pickups in Dover and southern Delaware add about an hour to the front leg, merging with I-95 at Wilmington before continuing on the normal route.
