California to Toronto is our longest U.S. to Canada corridor and one of the busiest for return migration. The pickups are from all over the state – Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, San Jose and Sacramento. This route’s clientele are typically Canadians coming home after years spent working in Silicon Valley or Hollywood, tech workers relocating to Toronto’s burgeoning AI and fintech scene, and families coming home for access to health care or to be closer to family in the GTA.

Shipments include partial loads following California condo sales to entire moves from suburban homes in Orange County, the Peninsula and East Bay. For DTLA or San Francisco high-rise pickups, we coordinate Certificate of Insurance, loading dock reservations and shuttle trucks for older neighborhoods with narrow streets. For pickups in California, volume-based pricing is fixed upfront, so the rate won't change upon delivery in Toronto, even if it has to cross the Rockies for a long time, or what freight regulations or border processing times are involved.

Truck Route from Los Angeles to Toronto

The Ambassador Bridge in Windsor is the primary freight crossing on this long-haul route — it’s the fastest access point into Ontario from the US Interstate system, and it gets commercial loads through fast. After pickup in California, trucks go north or east, depending on origin. Routing from the LA basin is I-15 North through Las Vegas to Salt Lake City, then I-80 East across Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa to Chicago. Trucks join I-80 East from the Bay Area direct through Reno and Salt Lake. From Chicago both routes continue east on I-94 across Michigan to Detroit. There they cross the Ambassador Bridge into Windsor then pick up Highway 401 east into the Toronto metro area. Trucks for San Diego pickups take I-15 North to join the normal route at Las Vegas.

Because this is one of our longest cross-border routes, we recommend setting aside everything you'll need for the first few days after arriving in Toronto. Keep passports, immigration documents, medications, valuables, chargers, and several days of clothing with you instead of packing them into the moving truck.

Yes. We regularly perform pickups from condominiums and apartment buildings throughout Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, San Jose, and other California cities. If your building requires a freight elevator reservation, loading dock booking, Certificate of Insurance (COI), or a shuttle truck due to limited access, we'll coordinate those requirements before moving day.

For a cross-country international move of more than 4,000 km, professional packing is strongly recommended for artwork, mirrors, televisions, computers, antiques, glassware, and other fragile belongings. Proper packing helps reduce the risk of damage during the long journey to Toronto.

Yes. Not every move requires a full household shipment. We regularly transport partial loads, studio apartments, and a small number of furniture items, as well as complete household relocations. Your quote is based on the volume of the shipment rather than the size of your home.

If you need to leave your California home before your Toronto property is ready, let us know as early as possible. We can often arrange temporary storage and schedule final delivery once your new home is available.
