The Minnesota volume is almost exclusively from the Twin Cities metro – Minneapolis, St. Paul and the surrounding suburbs (Bloomington, Plymouth, Eagan, Edina, Maple Grove). Client profiles are concentrated in a few sectors: Target Corporation, US Bank and 3M corporate transfers to Canadian operations; Mayo Clinic physicians from Rochester relocating to Toronto medical centers; and University of Minnesota academics moving to U of T or other GTA institutions. The smaller share comes from Duluth on Lake Superior, mostly from retirees moving south after the appeal of harsh winters wears thin.

This lane is the operational reality of Minnesota’s winter. And December to March pickups often require cold weather protocols – engine block warmers for trucks staged overnight, attention to icy driveways at suburban pickups, and route flexibility when blizzards shut down I-94 or I-90. • Wells Fargo Center and IDS Center towers have a COI requirement for Twin Cities downtown pickups. The Minnesota inventory check sets a cubic foot price and that price stays the same no matter if the weather routing is through Wisconsin, Michigan or the Sault Ste. Marie crossing.

How Much Does it Cost to Move from Minneapolis to Toronto?

Type of Move Estimated Cost
Small Move $669 to $1,469

Inventory Volume (Cubic Feet) + Distance/Route + Destination Logistics

Minnesota moves are priced on the 1,120 mile transit out of the Upper Midwest and into Ontario via the Sault Ste. Marie crossing. Pickup Logistics: Cold weather protocols for winter months, coordination of access to Twin Cities downtown high-rises (IDS Center, Wells Fargo, downtown St. Paul), route flexibility planning in the event of winter storms that impact I-94 or I-90 corridors.

Truck Route from Minneapolis to Toronto

Sault Ste. Minnesota is one of the few US states to Marie makes more sense than Detroit or Buffalo would. Going north through Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula will cut about a day off the trip, compared to going south to Chicago and crossing at Ambassador Bridge. Minneapolis drivers take I-94 East across Wisconsin to Eau Claire, then switch to US-2 East across the rest of Wisconsin and into Michigan’s UP. The route goes to Sault Ste. Marie on US-2. Customs clears in Marie at the international bridge and then continues on to Ontario via Highway 17 East along the north shore of Lake Huron to Sudbury and then south on Highway 400 into the GTA. Rochester pickups run the front leg to US-52 North, then joins I-94. When winter in the UP is snow-heavy, drivers sometimes take the longer southern route - I-94 East through Chicago to Detroit and the Ambassador Bridge - depending on the National Weather Service forecast.
