Montana is one of our least frequent US lanes – we run it as a consolidated lane, usually combining pickups with North Dakota or Minnesota loads to make the long distance corridor economical. Three regions account for the volume load: Billings on the eastern plains sustains the most reliable flow (energy industry relocations, BNSF Railway logistics, and St. Vincent Healthcare physician relocations), Missoula has University of Montana academic relocations and tech-worker migration tied to remote work, and Bozeman has become a regular pickup spot for ranch-property sales and tech relocations from Montana State University and the growing Big Sky tech corridor.

Montana's working intricacies come in the form of mountain pickups. Driveways can be tight, gated or have dirt roads at altitude that aren’t suitable for a 53-foot trailer – in those cases we send a smaller shuttle truck and consolidate at a transfer point near the Interstate. In winter conditions in the mountain passes on MT 200 and US-89, route delays may occur. Cubic foot pricing is based on the Montana inventory check, and whatever weather routing or shuttle truck support we provide doesn’t change the contract figure for delivery in Toronto.

How Much Does it Cost to Move from Billings to Toronto?

Type of Move Estimated Cost
Small Move $819 to $1,779
1 Bedroom Apartment $1,779 to $3,859
2 Bedroom Apartment $3,859 to $6,669
3 Bedroom House $6,819 to $8,889
Office Relocation $2,219 to $13,339

Inventory Volume (Cubic Feet) + Distance/Route + Destination Logistics

Montana moves are priced to account for the long-haul 1,740-mile trip from the Northern Rockies, across the Plains, and into Ontario. Shuttle truck support for mountain access roads, weather buffer scheduling for winter pickups across MT 200 and US-89 passes, and longer pickup windows for rural ranch-property addresses outside the Billings, Missoula and Bozeman metros are examples of pickup logistics that are often part of the plan.

Truck Route from Billings to Toronto

Geographic isolation for Montana makes Sault Ste. Marie the cleaner border crossing for most of the state – skipping the longer southern detour through Chicago and Detroit by taking the northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula route. From Billings drivers head east on I-94 through eastern Montana into North Dakota and then on through Minneapolis and Wisconsin. The route continues on US-2 East through the UP to Sault Ste. Marie, where customs clears on the international bridge. The truck takes Highway 17 East along the north shore of Lake Huron to Sudbury, then Highway 400 South into the GTA. Missoula and western Montana pickups take I-90 East across the state to connect with I-94 near Billings – adds about half a day. Bozeman is right on I-90 and so it fits into the same corridor with no change in route. In extreme winter conditions throughout the UP, drivers sometimes opt for the longer southern route through Chicago to the Ambassador Bridge, depending on NWS forecasts.
