The most useful way to reduce a moving bill is to reduce the work that needs doing and describe the remaining work accurately. A low hourly rate can still lead to a higher total if the quote excludes travel, a one-time fee or the help you need.
Compare the whole quote
For Easy Moving's standard local service, the published starting rate is $119 CAD per hour for two movers and a truck, plus a $159 one-time fee. Confirm the minimum booking, taxes, access conditions and any extra services in your written estimate. Specialist items and long-distance moves need their own assessment.
Ask each company to quote the same inventory and addresses. Check the crew size, truck, estimated hours, packing materials, dismantling and reassembly, and what happens if the job takes longer. Our guide to moving costs explains the main cost components.
Reduce the inventory before requesting quotes
Decide what you will keep, sell, donate or dispose of before the moving date. Removing an unwanted sofa from your inventory is more useful than discovering on moving day that you do not want it transported. Arrange disposal separately; do not assume the moving crew can take unwanted items away.
List furniture and estimate the number of packed boxes. The moving volume calculator helps estimate space in cubic feet. It does not replace a quote that accounts for labour, access and distance.
Prepare access at both addresses
- Reserve the service elevator and loading bay where the building requires them.
- Tell the mover about stairs, long carries, narrow doors and parking restrictions.
- Have keys and building permissions ready before the crew arrives.
- Label boxes by destination room so unloading does not depend on opening each one.
These steps can reduce avoidable waiting and extra handling. They do not guarantee a fixed saving, since the actual work and access vary between moves.
Pack what you can safely prepare
Finish ordinary boxes ahead of time, use suitable packing materials and keep box weights manageable. Leave specialist handling to people equipped for it. Discuss flexible dates without assuming a discount
If you can move on several dates, tell us the options. Availability may differ, but a weekday or off-season booking does not automatically carry a lower rate. Compare the actual written quotes, including any extra rent, storage or time off work.
Match the service to the job

Before confirming, keep a copy of the agreed scope, charges, schedule and payment terms. If your inventory or access changes, update the mover so the estimate can be reviewed before moving day.
