“I’ll tell you, Idaho is a long-haul lane for us and the Treasure Valley is almost all the volume – Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell. Occasional Northern Idaho pickups (Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint) come up and route different. Client profiles tell a story of recent Idaho growth: Californians who moved to Boise in the 2020-2023 migration wave and are now moving again to Canada, Micron Technology engineers moving to Canadian semiconductor operations, and Canadians ending Idaho stays after retirement or remote-work contracts expire.

The biggest Treasure Valley shipments are from new-construction subdivisions where the homes are large and the loads are full 3-bedroom volumes. In newer Boise developments, there are often HOA truck restrictions and tight cul-de-sac access – we factor that into scheduling, sometimes sending a smaller shuttle for the final leg. You are billed by the cubic feet for the Idaho pickup. The 7 to 10 day cross-country haul through Wyoming and the Midwest does not change the invoice in Toronto.

Idaho moving costs include long-haul cross-country transit (more than 2,050 miles) from the Pacific Northwest region. Pickup logistics include navigating steep mountain access in northern Idaho, unpredictable winter weather conditions that affect truck routing through the Rockies, and coordinating loadouts in fast-growing residential subdivisions in the Treasure Valley (Boise, Meridian and Nampa).

Truck Route from Boise to Toronto

Idaho freight to Ontario crosses two different geographic zones – the Pacific Northwest leg and the Plains/Midwest leg. Weather through the Rockies determines if the route is predictable or with weather buffers. Drivers heading east of Boise are on I-84 across southern Idaho and into Utah at Brigham City, where they join I-80 East at Salt Lake City. From there i-80 carries the truck across Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa and into Illinois. The longest single stretch of the route, about four days under normal conditions. I-94 East continues East through Michigan to the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit, East of Chicago. After it clears Canadian customs, the truck is brought into the GTA on Highway 401 East. Northern Idaho pickups (Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint) have a different first leg -- I-90 East across Montana to Billings, then south to join the I-80 corridor in Wyoming.
